David Hinkamp

FAYETTEVILLE - David Girard Hinkamp, 50, of Fayetteville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, while vacationing in Myrtle Beach, S.C. David was born July 30, 1961, to the late Walter B. Hinkamp and Ruthene McPherson Hinkamp in Fayetteville. He graduated from E.E. Smith High School in 1979, attended Campbell University on a golf scholarship and later Holland School for Jewelers. David was the 1986 Cumberland County Golf Champion, holding the tournament's scoring record for many years. He was co-owner of Hinkamp Jewelers Inc. with his brother, Wally. David was a devoted husband, a passionate father, a loving brother and uncle and a true friend to so many. As someone passionate about giving back, he drew from past experiences to connect with others and inspire those around him to commit to the Lord. A dedicated servant to Village Baptist Church and its school, the community and the military, he never missed an opportunity to contribute whatever was needed. David gave of his time, heart and passion to several causes that are much the better for God loaning him to us for such a seemingly short period of time. The Lord chose David to become his servant along with "Dot," his loyal wife. He leaves behind a legacy cherished and remembered by family and friends. David and Dot were inseparable. Always the romantic, David's love for his wife was evident to all. Their love for each other only grew stronger with time and Dot's love for her husband will continue to grow with the memories they created. He shared his enthusiasm for athletics with both of his children. David and Brice had an unbreakable father-son bond, full of treasured memories, which Brice will forever hold dear. As his father's constant sidekick, the two enjoyed competing with one another in everything, including golf, fishing and bowling. His daughter, Brett, along with her strong athletic ability in volleyball, basketball, and softball, truly was admired by her loving and proud father. David was a true follower and supporter of all her endeavors, athletically and academically. He shared an extremely close and special relationship with his twin sister, Donna, leaving a void that can never be filled. Working with his brother "Wally" on a daily basis, David was not only his business partner, but a friend who could always be counted on. David was an active member of Village Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a lifetime member of the Booster and Fine Arts clubs at Village Christian Academy. Loving each and every child as if they were his own, David made it his personal goal to see as many as possible find salvation through Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruthene Hinkamp; and a brother, Edward Hinkamp. David is survived by the love of his life, Dorothy "Dot" Rice Hinkamp; his son, Brice; and daughter, Brett. He also is survived by his twin sister, Donna Hinkamp Warren, and her husband Mike; his brother, Walter "Wally" Hinkamp Jr., and sister-in-law Susan Hinkamp, all of Fayetteville; his mother-in-law Shige Rice, of Spring Lake; 31 nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews. The family received friends Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, in Village Baptist Church, with Dr. Bruce Martin officiating. David will be laid to rest in Lafayette Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Village Baptist Church or Village Christian Academy at 908 S. McPherson Church Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303. Services entrusted to Rogers and Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

Charlie Holland

 iPhoto Library    Charlie C. Holland, 82, of 6237 Old Jenks Rd., Apex, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday Oct. 8. Born in 1927, Charlie Holland lost his mother at age 8, then his father at age 11, beginning a difficult orphaned childhood. His compassion, concern, and support for orphans remained with him his entire life.

     Following training at Spencer School of Watchmaking, he and his wife Ann founded Hollands Jewelers in Apex on Aug. 1, 1960. Holland had a passion for his Lord, serving the Apex Baptist Church as deacon and various committee chairs throughout his long membership there. He was devoted to the Apex business community serving as charter member of the Apex Rotary Club as well as Triangle Youth for Christ. He also served the community in the Apex Jaycees, the Apex Library Board, the Downtown Merchants Association, and the Apex Chamber of Commerce who honored him as Citizen of the Year in 2006. He was a member of the Apex Masonic Lodge and the Amran Shrine.

    A service celebrating his life and home going was held at 4 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 11 in the Apex Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Apex Cemetery. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ann P. Holland, son Charles Lee Holland and his wife Gloria of Apex, son Andy Holland and his wife Kim of Raleigh, daughter Charlene Smith and her husband Wilton of Burlington, daughter Angela Dixon and her husband Dale of Fuquay-Varina, daughter Paula Mills and her husband Paul of Trinity, daughter Ginny Sears and her husband Stacey of Apex, and daughter Rebecca H. Young and her husband Sam of Cary. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Holland was preceded in death by four brothers, and survived by one sister, Jewel Holmes of Benson.

Henry Jerome Young "Jerry" III  

Henry Jerome “Jerry” Young III, 71, died August 21, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 11, 1937, to the late Henry Jerome Young, Jr, and Margaret Sherrill Young in Suffolk, VA. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1959, with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduation, Jerry served in the Army National Guard, after which he embarked on a career in the jewelry industry which spanned 45 years. During his career Jerry was recognized as both a Certified Gemologist and Certified Gemologist Appraiser with the Gemological Institute of America. He was President of Jolly’s Jewelers of Raleigh and later both founded and sold Henry J. Young’s, a successful Jewelry store in Raleigh. During the latter years of his career, Jerry managed the Raleigh location of Bailey’s Fine Jewelry. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Ragsdale Young, in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Diane Shull Young; children, Henry Jerome Young, IV and wife, Li-Chun, Graham Sherrill Young and wife, Jeana, George Ragsdale Young and wife, Krista, Susan Young Maddux and husband, John; step-daughter, Susan Propst Bones and husband Bruce; step-son, James Michael Propst and wife, Amy; nine grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by his sister, Margaret Young Wilkins and husband, William; brothers-in-law, George Robinson Ragsdale and wife, Adora, and Frank Jolly Ragsdale and wife, Margaret; cousins, retired Wake County Chief District Court Judge, Russell Sherrill, John Sherrill, and Katherine Powell. Jerry was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. An avid golfer, Jerry relished spending time with close friends on the golf course. His civic and social interests included serving as President of the Tammy Lynn Center Board of Directors, President of the Terpsichorean Club of North Carolina, Chairman of the North Carolina Debutante Ball, member of the Peace College Foundation Board, member of the Carolina Country Club, member of the Nine O’clock Cotillion Club, and member of the Sphinx Club of Raleigh. Jerry and his wife, Diane, were active members of First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh where they regularly worshipped together. A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm followed by a graveside service at Historic Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC 27605, or The Friendship Fund of First Presbyterian Church 120 Hargett Street Raleigh NC 27601.
